but in April, if it hits 40 degrees, I go out to get the mail wearing shorts and a T-shirt?

What's up with that?

I know most think that it we just experienced the "Autumnal Solstice" but in truth it is called the "Summer Spoilst Us."

We are so used to the hot sun, the humid air, the warm temps that with the least little breeze we start to chill. Our bodies are so acclimated to the warmth of the season that to make the change takes quite an adjustment. I actually love the fall and the cool air coming in. But I can be such a baby chattering in the 50 degrees wondering where my precious summer went off to. *sigh*

But in the spring........it is such a welcome change! Perhaps it is knowing what lies ahead. While in the fall it is almost a dread of the cold we might be in store for. *shrugs*

Either way.......change does take getting used to.....and our bodies and our minds aren't always prepared for the shock to the system.

I'm thinking of solving the whole issue by moving to Florida. Anyone else game? lol

I wish that it was 50 degrees here. It'll be up the 80's by a little later this afternoon. I guess it's all a state of mind. In April we expect the the weather to be warming up. I do have a throw wrapped around me this morning because I've got chills so bad.

It all has to do with what season you are coming out of. Compared to below freezing, 40 seems balmy. Compared to steamy heat, 50 seems rather chilly. It's about what we were used to previously.

It's called acclimation. Your body get's used to higher temperatures over time and so low temps shortly after will feel colder. As you acclimate to the cold weather and it begins to warm up to something you have not felt in a while, it is a warmer feeling.
