Why does it matter? The French do not like the Americans very much either. The Americans take everything for granted and then destroy it over time. They should be thankful for what they have and be grateful that they are " the land of the free".

They are perceived as ungrateful. During WWI they *almost* got their cans handed to them until American forces relieved them; and their best fighting "group" was the foreign legion.
During WWII they just surrendered and waited for us to bail them out. They have excuses for the surrender, but the UK didn't surrender, not even after an almost complete destruction of London.
The French (after the invasion of Iraq) spray painted "yankees go home" and "rosbeefs (slang for brittish) go away" on the normandy memorial.
Plus they stink and they are elitists...
But... We don't really hate them... hate is such a strong word, they do serve some sort of purpose... the creation of ginourmous copper statues.
