I don't like to look that fare a head anyway. I remember New years eve 1999 when everyone thought the world was going to come to an end. When i was little i thought by the year 2000 we would be flying around in space ships in stead of driving cars. You know us humans were so dramatic. You can't believe everything you hear. Take one day at a time and make the most of it!!

I wasn't aware the movie existed, so I haven't given it a thought. Didn't worry about Y2K either. You know, how all the computers were supposed to go crazy at the stroke of the year 2000 and the world was going to essentially come to an end.
But then, you're writing about a movie. Wasn't there a movie entitled "2001" or something like that? Did any of the predictions in that movie turn out to be accurate?

If you're seriously interested about the future, you should read some books by Ray Kurzweil. He has a scientist, inventor, and future predictor. Leaders in the technology industry (Bill Gates being one of them) believes that he is the person that can best predict the future.
He predicts that in 20 years, biotechnology will enable us to keep our bodies young (live forever?), and that people will develop relationships with virtual personalities, and that machines will become as intelligent as humans (and even conscious), etc.
Unless you die in the next 20-50 years, you could very live live to be 5000 or older.
I'll provide a Wikipedia link to Ray Kurzweil. Don't take my word for it. Research it yourself.

If humans are still confined to this planet in 4000, we'll either clean it up or die off. We can't continue going as we are.
I think it far more likely that we'll actually get into space long before then and have colonies in other solar systems. The ones who stay behind on Earth will face the burden of cleaning it up.

It's hard to say, because I didn't see the show. I guess I've never given it a second thought, because like you said, I won't be here. But technology will have advanced so much that either mankind will have destroyed itself by catastrophic warfar, or it will have been turned to peaceful purposes and our descendants may well be living in a near paradise. Why, what did the show suggest would happen?

Unless humankind changes, and that is extremely unlikely, the earth as we know it will be an unpleasant place by then. However, why be scared of something that you will not see? Nothing lasts forever, not even the earth, and even if humans did not destroy the environment eventually some other catastrophe would deal the mortal blow. Accept it as inevitable.

Lets do a mental check.
Using the most modern means weather forecasters can predict weather ... maybe seven to ten day in the future.
And somehow you think we can accurately predict what world is going to look like in the year 4000.
Lets face it, we humans are just not that smart yet.

Maybe YOU won't be present, buddy. I personally look forward to the year 4000 because by then I will be supreme robot ruler of the Earth.

the big issue will be the year 10,000.
remember the Y2K problem? when all the computer programs were fixed to have 4 digits in the DATE field instead of 2?.
On january 1, 10,000 there will be massive blackouts and stuff caused by the oversight of only having 4 digit years. .

I don't think that far ahead. No, it doesn't scare me. Even if it is creepy, just think back 3,000 years ago, if they knew then what we would be like now, they would have been scared too. It's all a matter of evolution and getting used to your surroundings.
