9x+16.75+20.35
9x=3.6
x=.40

x + 7x + 16.75 = 20.35
initial amount of water plus enough water to make the volume be 8 times the original amount plus the 16.75 litres equals the total volume of 20.35.
A lot of people have been adding x + 8x to represent the 8 times as much water, but that is not correct based on the way you wrote the problem.
Hope this helps. Good Luck.

It's been a while since i;ve done these kinds of questions, but what i got is this...
use x to represent the initial unknown amount of water.
The total is 20.35, you added 16.75 and the you added 8 times the initial amount plus the original amount, so...
20.35 was made up of 16.75 + 9x (because 8x + x = 9x).
in algebra terms you'd write it as....
9x + 16.75 = 20.35
next we subtract 16.75 from both side of the = to simplify the equation leaving....
9x = 3.6
next we divide both sides by 9 to get x on it's own.....
x = 0.4
so if my understanding is correct there were 0.4 litres in the tank to begin with.
You can then check the answer by subsituting the value x with our answer......
0.4 (the original amount) + (0.4 x 8 time the original amount) + 16.75 = 20.35
0.4 + 3.2 + 16.75 = 20.35
Enjoy sweety!

let x be the initial amount of water in the tank:
therefore, x = 20.35 - 16.75 / 8 = ?

20.35 liters -16.75 liters =3.60liters (to begin with)
3.60 divided by 8 times = .45 liters had to be there at first

umm i'm thinking you subtracted 16.75 from 20.35 then take that answer and divide by 8 and that will give the answer
i got .045 but i'm not sure if it is right

im not doing your homeworkk for you. its an easy sum.
start withte final ammount 20.35l, minus 16.7l and divide the answer by 9. that whats left, and must be the starting point
basically do the sum backwards.
good luck
