You can bury chicken wire over the bulbs and under the ground. You can sprinkle camphor [moth balls] and you can sprinkle pepper. The last two will probably only last until the next rain.

Oy! NO BONE MEAL!! Bone meal attracts squirrels, skunks and other criters to dig up and munch on your bulbs! Use a commercial (chemical) bulb feeder instead, like "Bulb Booster." Covering the area with chicken wire is a good suggestion. I wouldn't advise feeding the squirrels in any way. That just encourages them to stick around and start a family!

The only thing that worked for me was to get chicken wire and put it over and around what ever the little furry creatures wanted to get it. You could also opt to put up a squirrel feeder about three feet from your area then move it about a foot away each week. In a matter of no time they will leave your bulbs and plants alone and go right for the feeder. The cheapest way to go is to find acorn trees or chesnut trees in your area and throw then in the feeder instead of bying squirrel food. Calling pest control won't work; no matter how far they take them from your area, they will find their way back.
