This question has been asked here in various forms and many times. Answers have ranged all over the spectrum often dependant on the answerer’s political perspective. Many of the answers fall into one of two groups, those who support President Bush and those who hate President Bush, neither of this camps will alter their opinion.
Those who believe it was for oil aren’t really supported by the facts because before the war little of the Iraqi oil came to the United States and since the war even that has been reduced to near zero. Those countries who received large amounts of Iraqi oil, such as France, have been against the war. It would have been far easier to support the former government of Iraq on an agreement to garner additional oil if that was the goal.
While hind sight is always so perfect, at the time of the invasion nearly all intelligent agencies agreed that Iraq was building weapons of mass destruction. A good case can be made that evidence of some such weapons have been found and the actual weapons moved out of the country, but best conclusions came from the various intelligence agencies. Add to this that this was next to the Afghanistan where the United States was already fighting terrorists linked to the September 11, 2001 latest attack on United State citizens and the fact that Iraq was rewarding the families of successful suicide bombers, and that it had already been demonstrated that the Iraqi government would ruthlessly kill hundreds of thousands of its own citizens, the justification to invade Iraq is quite easy.
That the war in Iraq has not turned out to be as originally predicted as terrorists driven out of Afghanistan swarmed into Iraq and support for religious war came in from Iran, has changed the nature of the war. What is most significant is to keep in mind that the terrorists see no other solution than the death of the West. All peoples of the world must (in their eyes) become their extremist view of religious zealots with no room for any other way of life. All of this is part of the reasons for invading Iraq.

Iraq was invaded because GW wants the oil and 9/11 was a good excuse. 9/11 had nothing to do with Iraq and Al Qeida is not based there. It is based in Saudi.

Bush was focused on Iraq as soon as he took office...that is why they did nothing about Osama when they got into office...they didn't see him as a threat...but they wanted to invade Iraq way before 9/11 ever happen...then when Osama and his cronies attacked the US on 9/11 they used that fear to convince the American people that Iraq had something to do with it...we now know it had nothing to do with it and has only made terrorism prosper...Iraq was a war for oil and power that's all under the guise of democracy and fear

The people of America and the U.S. Congress were told that Iraq had Weopons of Mass Destruction, and that our country was in imminent danger of being attacked with these weopons within minutes. We were also told that the current administration knew where these weopons were, that they were "in or around the area of Tecrit."
The people of America and the U.S. Congress were given false information.
After it was proven that the current administration had spread false information they tried to brush their culpability under the rug by saying that they had received faulty intelligence. This means that they are saying that they took this nation to war on mis-information. Gee - I wonder who they got this mis-information from! How much more information is this current administration relying on from these same intelligence sources.
I find this sort of hogwash hard to swallow. The current administration had been told that this intelligence was faulty ahead of time by the U.N. Inspector, Hans Blix, and by Joseph Wilson, the American that was sent over to Iraq to find these weopons. Hans Blix, and Joseph Wilson told this current administration that there were no weopons of mass destruction in Iraq, but Mr. Armitage in the current administration foamed at the mouth with desire to invade Iraq. He and Carl Rove cooked up a plan to pay-back Joseph Wilson by outing Mr. Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, as a CIA operative. Her cover was blown (a felony) and she lost her carreer because of these two diabolical men, and I'm sure the Dick Cheney and George Walker Bush, and Donald Rumsfeld were in on the plan.
George Walker Bush believed that the invasion of Iraq would be an easy job that would take just months in order to secure their oil fields so that he could later steal their oil.
This has been nothing more than, yet another, blood-for-oil war orchestrated and carried out by the Nazi-style Neo-Cons who are currently, illegally occupying the White House.

Cheney and pals had been hungering to invade iraq since Clinton's administration - they wrote him a letter asking him to. So, keep clear this had nothing to do with 9/11.
We (our CIA) installed Saddam as the leader of Iraq. Rumsfeld shook Saddam's hand after Saddam gassed the Kurds! Cheney was doing business with Saddam all during Clinton's term.
Given this, what can we conclude but that invading Iraq was a [very stupid] business decision.

If Americaa invaded Iraq because of oil, how come oil prices are higher now then before we invaded. Also how come we are not just taking Iraqi oil. As far as I can tell, the Iraq government is selling their oil in much the same way as it did prior to the first gulf war.
Americ invaded Iraq because of National Security concerns. The Iraq government was supporting and exporting terrorist. Also they were not complying with international sanctions imposed upon them because of the first Gulf War.

So we wouldn't hurt Bin laudin, he is after all Bush's family friend. We had to LOOK like we were revenging 9/11 then the GREATEST PR move of ALL TIME - Iraq! And hardly anyone noticed. CNN poll Sept 2006 43% of Americans STILL BELIEVE Saddam Hussein and Iraq were responsible for 9/11... UNBELIEVABLE!

Don't know who Al quida is, sounds like some Mexican money lender.
No one will know the real reason.
No rational person can believe the published reasons are justification for the death its caused.
Maybe it was an arogant belief that we should all assimilate into the US culture.
Maybe it was to stabilse the large oil reserves, although i think even the US administration can't be this cold, can they ?
I don't know, and haven't found anyone who can justify to me why we had to invade on that particular day and start killing innocent people.

-because Sadaam H funded & supported the same terrorists that attacked the USA.
-because SH was killing and brutalizing the population
-because SH would've continued funding and performing terrorist acts against USA and his own population
-because SH's ethnic cleansing /eradication of others like the Kurds is a crime against humanity
Since SH /Iraq was complicit in funding/supporting the terrorist groups that attacked USA, removing him served to
--provide relief for a country that desparetly needed releif from SH's opression, murder, rape,.....
--stop all the bribery -that secured wealth/power for SH
--Allow the iraqui people access to their own resources,
--GIFT the Iraqui people the opportunity to select a government that would serve the population and allow the country to prosper in the world community
The USA was founded to escape persecution and opression from "leaders/governments. Americans get outraged and sad when they see another country use abuse, kill, its own population. To Americans ,its difficult to watch others get abused and killed simply to satisfy the needs of a corrupt murderous "leader".
........So..since SH ACTED AGAINST the USA (funding support), the USA justified the act of removing HIM and hoping that the IRAQUI people could produce a viable nation that could prosper. (see above) ..IF it occurs it will be a great accomplishment. If it doesnt Iraq will devolve into regional tribal warfare tha will allow this nation to be absorbed by one of its neighbors. The people of Iraq and its resources will again be pawns to use/abuse/eradicate and the resources will use long to whoever overtakes the country.
-- As for the USA ,like all gifts...what the recipient does with it is their choice...
Would you have preferred that IRAQ remain as it was?
Rape, death, persecution.food other imports converted to build another of SH's palaces or other desired purchases such as biological gasses that kill unruly subjects, oractually start a war that will result in death and destruction of perhaps the entire population?????
