Actually the USA had to be dragged kicking and screaming into WW2 after they sat on the sidelines for two years fueling Nazi Subs in New York harbour. German Panzer tanks used Ford engines. Same kind of thing in WW1.
(And of course the entire world owes its freedom totally to John Wayne)
