What exactly do you mean by genetics? Just the DNA coding of an individual life form? The hereditary transmission of the shapes and colors of the beaks?

The exact location and gene sequencing for beak shape and color is not known for all bird species. In addition, there are species of bird which seem to have a sex linked trait so that males and females of the same species have variations in their beaks.

It appears that birds express gene traits which have a definite advantage for the food types and tasks that the bird does with its beak. Birds with short, stout beaks tend to have offspring with short, stout beaks and birds with long, skinny beaks tend to have offspring with long skinny beaks.

Beak color and curvature have a little more variation within each species. Apparently function has a higher priority than form.

Short of a human being arrogant enough to splice a toucan beak DNA sequence into a hummingbird, no direct evidence is currently available. Bird beaks seem to be like other expressed traits in life forms, following the rules of genetics generally accepted for individual species.

Evolution and natural selection. Those birds with the beaks better served to exploit their foodsource (eg crack nuts, eat worms out of fallen wood, etc.) are far less likely to starve. Thus, their genes will be passed on, and their beak's genes will be selected for.

Do your own homework, next time.

In the process of genes there is a phase called translatrion. Translation involves your genetic material becoming an expressed trait, like blue hair or something.
