It depends on where your getting it number 1......#2 make sure the place you're going uses disposable utensils they use to make your tatt. #3 take care of it do as they tell you. It will scab over don't pick at it, it will fall off naturally, I have 3 and have never had an infection #4 most important make sure you are going to a good tatt place that does good work. I have seen some bad work and this is for life......I went to some places and checked out some tatts that people were getting in the place after they were done. one more thing DO NOT get it in the sun if you do use sun screen it will fade the color......if you've seen these that look faded greenie looking its from the sun or a bad job. best thing is if you see some one with a nice one ask where they had it done enjoy !!!!

Yes, it will hurt a little bit. It will hurt more on your neck than on your finger. The more meat or muscle you have the less it seems to hurt. But, it only hurts for the first few seconds and then you get used to it and the area becomes rather numb. Good luck. Hope you choose something cute =)

Just a reminder when getting ink, make sure if you are going into a professional job, that it can be easily covered. My friend has full sleeves and had to go by new clothes to cover them for his new job.

The tattoo isn't going to hurt in the way that we normally think of pain. It does feel like kitten scratches as was previously mentioned. It is more irritating than painful. I thought it hurt worse when it got out into the fleshy areas, and less on the bone. But that also depends on how heavy of a hand your artist has. As for color, the black has hardly any sting to it. However, red stings like crazy!

Good luck!

It's like a cat scratch on fire. The outline hurts the worst and then your body gets used to it, or mine did. I have a very high pain tolerance. I got mine on my ankle almost 10 years ago of a rose, just make sure its something you can live with forever and put it on a place that is going to look good in the future (don't get one on your belly, cause if you have kids the stretch marks will make it look HORRIBLE) And don't worry about the "infections" if you get the ointment they sell, i think its called tattoo goo, and keep it clean, you will be fine. Mine didn't bleed much and didnt scab. Good luck to you.

well, yes. though its not pain like a smack in the mouth, its pain like toothache. discomfort. of course this depends on where you have it.. next to the bone is very. we'll call it mind focussing..you just want it over with..a bit like childbirth.. imagine all that pain women suffer..but it doesnt stop em doing it again, does it...

pain memory fades very quickly... half an hour afterwards youll have forgotten the pain, and be flashing it to all and sundry...

just remember; dont pick it scratch it, or put anything on it... itll scab up pretty quickly, dont wear fluffy type jumpers, or whatever, wear a longsleeved cotton top, or a shirt. it helps ease the irritation. good luck..

oh, and make sure the guy is clean, new needles and gloves. 40 years ago the guy had a rollup hanging out of his lip, and the closest you got to new needles was getting there when he opened... thakfully all that has changed.

one issue though, think about this. ok you're young, but, how will the artwork interfere with your life, your later life...

i ahd a mate who was really good artist, and being 17 (and it was a freebie) i selected the eagle with wings outstretched and talons extended, and i had it clutching a swastika. (im a bad *** biker type)

it was the biz... 30 years later, im an editor... meeting lots of people, and i often wear just a tee shirt, my arms, covered in art. that swastika casused me so much lost business, jews have lots of money..and i offended them. (actually, i didnt even think about it) then one guy told me to my face, guy to goy as it were. the swastika is now a bloody salmon...

and before you castigate me, it was 1970, its connection was with the badass bikers, and not racist scumbags like the BNP.

oh it hurts but is a sort of nice pain, well it is if your doing it for love. Some places are more sensitive than others the finger shouldn't hurt too much, actually it's quiet an annoying scratching pain, a continuous scratching that stops hurting as soon as the needle stops. Please no Dolphins Butterflies or Roses, Sharks Wasps and Poppies are just about OK

Mine are on the arms and they didn't hurt bad at all except when it got to the soft spot near my armpit. That hurt like hell!!!! I bet the finger won't hurt too bad.Back of the neck may not be bad either but I don't know for sure. Some pain always comes with tats but believe me it IS worth it if you get something cool!!!

I just got mine on the back of my neck. Did not hurt at all during. It was more annoying than anything, like a kid poking you to get your attention annoying lol. Felt like a bad sunburn after it was done, the burning only lasted a few hours. I have heard it depends on the artist who does it too. I had mine done at Hart and Huntington at the Palm's in Vegas.

there will be some discomfort to it, but it's not terrible. of course the more tender parts of your body are more sensitive as are the areas with less flesh.

i usually described the level of pain as if you took a pin and scraped your skin until it broke (the skin - not the pin!).

it also depends on your tolerance for pain. I've had 2 kids and 3 tattoos - i'll take the tattoos any day over child birth!

I personally don't have any, but I have been told that the best place to get one is in the soft tissue away from bones. That when done over bones, they hurt more.
I have also been told that the black work hurts more than the colors.
Good Luck!
