Living in the Midwest, I didn't grow up around any huge baseball teams (KC was the closest). My dad would tell me stories of the Yankees when he was growing up. He loved Mickey Mantle. I love the idea and the history of the Yankees. It's the greatest sports franchise in history.
I get upset because in the last 5-8 years it has become trendy to hate the Yankees. I get upset when people say that they buy their teams. If any other team had the money to work with like the Yanks, they would do the same thing. It's like hating Bill gates for spending money on nice things because he has it.
I don't' know how people can accuse them of being cocky, it's a group of people, a team. There is a fine line between what people think is cocky and confidence. The Yankees have plenty of confidence.
But again, the reason I love the Yankees, is because they represent the history of the greatest game of all time.

I love the Yankees, when I was a child my Dad would take me to the stadium to see Mickey Mantle my hero when I was six years old. And when you live on this side of CT you are right next to the City. And there was no cable so the Yankee games were always on.

I love the Yankees because that is the team i grew up with and my family grew up with...we have been Yankees fans for ever...it has to do with tradition and winning attitude these players have...they expect to win every year and except nothing less...when some teams are horrible then make the playoffs they are satisfied with that...not the Yankees it is either win it all or nothing...i like that

I'm indifferent really.
Being a die-hard Braves fan I hated the Yankees in the late 90s and early turn of the millenia.
I can't say though that I like the fact that they tend to buy most of their talent instead of having a decent farm system.

i first began to despise the yankees way back when stienbrenner bought the team from cbs. he seemed to be an ****** from the beginning and not much that he has done since has changed that opinion.
he has been a convicted felon, he has circumvented mlb rules and parameters against the wishes and desires of most other owners and the league itself and has knowingly operated his team in a manner that has been detrimental to the game in general. now i dont mind an owner who wants to do what he can to make his team a winner, but sometimes the "big" picture must take precendence......for george and the yankees, the only thing big is their ego.
my despise for the yankees has been fueled also by the bandwagon fan base that has exploded exponentially since 1996. every team has a portion of its fan base that are "undesireable", but over the last 10 years far too many yankee fans fit into that classification.
many of these fans are yankee fans only because its fashionable or only because the yankees win. they are arrogant and too many of them actually believe THEY themselves are better than people who root for other teams simplay because they root for the yankees. its truly pathetic that so many people base self esteem and social standing on rooting for a baseball team.
granted, many of these so called fans are "young", but its scary to think what is gonna happen to them when they come to realize that real life situations dont mimic baseball seasons and teams.
i dont condemn all yankee fans as i know there are still many who have rooted for the team for many years and supported them even in non playoff seasons and im also aware that not all newer fans from the last 10 years are as arrogant, ignorant and disrespectful as the "bad apples" i mentioned.
p.s. to those that gave me "thumbs down" for this post, i guess the truth really hurts and your actions simply prove exactly what im saying.

i am intrested in how they are perceived as cocky? if anything ive seen or heard they are modest like jeter when asked about the mvp he answered that hes not focused on that he just wants to win games for his team but when ortiz is asked that question that was the most uncocky answer ever(if you are a naive person that ortiz comment is something called sarcasm)
