Actually there is a possibility of very primitive life. A couple years ago, a meteorite named AH0004, was found in Antartica (Allan Hills) that was found to be the same composition as Mars (therefore "from" Mars). Inside it they found "very" small fossilized things that looked like some forms of bacteria. However, since it those things are 10 times smaller than any form of life we've found on Earth, it is severely debated as to whether or not life can exist that small. And since it is a fossilized remain, there isn't a way to bring them to life.
There are some possibilities that other forms of bacteria may exist in pockets of underground water. Some of the satellite photo's over the valley's suggest that these underground pools of water are under pressure and therefore in a liquid form. Eventually wind erosion exposes enough rock that it becomes weak and blows out a small amount of water and vapor into the canyon. They don't have strong evidence of this, but some photo's "suggest" this might be happening.
If this is the case, underground pools of water might be places where bacteria might be more "happy".
Other places to look for life that might be more promising is several of the moons around Jupiter. Europa is believed to have a hard crust of ice with liquid oceans underneath. The strong tidal forces and radiation emitted from Jupiter might be enough to provide the warmth and friction to keep things mixed up and therefore and good place for life. Callisto and Ganymede (also moons of Jupiter) are also thought to have large volumes of ice-water.
Lastly, Titan, a moon around Saturn is rich in organic compounds (which many believe are the building blocks of life). It's very cold at Titan with oceans of liquid methane, but many people believe it was similar to a primitive Earth (except much colder). So it's an excellent place to see what types of organic compounds exist and if any forms of amino acids exist there.
Feel free to write me for further details.

Maybe.
Carl Sagan who was a member of the Viking science teams wrote that the Viking life experiments had more positive results than negative. He argued against the NASA position that Viking showed no signs of life.
Also there seems to signs of biological causes to variations in the amount of methane in Mars's atmosphere.
If there is life on Mars, it is expected to be fairly primative (no animals for example) and live in the soil and rocks to be protected from UV radiation.
*******Update
@Quintis T: you are thinking of Venus.

No. The Viking landers in the 1970's had several biological experiments specifically designed to detect micro organisms in the soil and they found none. None of the pictures returned by any Mars lander has shown plants or animals. Mars is dead. Accept it and move on.

people believe there is, but actually no, as far as i can judge. mars is very very similar to earth in looks and atmosphere, exept from the fact that it has got no or very little oxygen. no proof has been out saying there are living things which can live without oxygen. keep researching on it until you gt some facts. try the nasa or other space websites. good luck, and hope there is some life, coz i can take you there one day to show you and explain.
Cheers!!

without a doubt in my mind there is life on mars in microbial form. perhaps if water is ever discovered, and it will (above or below surface) there will be heaving with life.
there is soo much to discover on mars and there is no evidence to prove there is not life on mars. and yes, i believe mars exists.

Is there life on Mars?
David Bowie sounds like he's been there, but there's nothing there now except the discarded lego that Nasa keeps chucking at it.

Depends how long you leave it in the cupboard before you eat it have seen some green stuff growing on a long forgotten snickers bar I once discovered in a friends cupboard when we replaced his kitchen units last year I guess it was life but not how we know it !
