Who believes everything they read in the newspaper?

Question

Is the newspaper really true? Or is it fake? Or is it just a crime blotter in the guise of a newspaper? Sometimes I think the latter,
as there seems to be nothing but shootings and beheadings in ours(maybe saying I live in Chicago explains the shootings,
and the war in iraq explains the beheadings!)

SO, do you believe the paper or what?

I always say if I want to read the rap sheet
or crime blotter, I can go to my local police station or post office!.......why nothing but bad stuff in newspapers? Why not come out with something called "happy news",
with just good stuff, about cute pets and
people saving cats out of trees and stuff?
I want happy news....now!

what would you rather read about?
firemen saving cats out of trees or people
getting their heads cut off in iraq?
I'll take the kittens, thank you!

"Sun-times"......i was greeted at my Harvey
train station yesterday morning with the news that a metra worker had his head blown off 6 hours earlier....thats the kind of place chicago is! LOL...and not kidding!

and this happens like a mile from where I live....maybe I better moce to wrigleyville or something.....LOL

BTW, for people not in Chicago that aren't in the know, the Sun-Times is our ghetto
paper. Pretty much only read in the south side, with lots of fun Black Power series
that would make you swear you were back in the Black Panther 60's....lots of racist
black columnists saying how awful white
people are and stuff...........and NOTHING
but crime and murders for the first 6 pages.

Typical sun-times issue:
HEADLINE: Ghetto boy throws 6-year-old kid out of a 10th floor cabrini green apartment window.
...South side multiple rapist finally caught
after 10 month spree.....south side teen-ager kills 3 at mcdonalds parking lot(actually happened yesterday).......

And the "articles" are about 5 paragraphs,
for people with the attention-span of rhesus
monkeys(ghetto folk).

But they do have old Roger Ebert, even though Roger's been looking weird lately
(that stroke or whatever he had).
The Chicago Sun-Times makes the NY
Daily News look like the London Times.

This is what happened at my lovely train station two days ago. My car is parked tehre right now....the neighborhodd turned
from white to all black the last 10-20 years. We are the only whites(or at least it seems like it)left.

just scan a few of the articles archived for laughs...I feel pangs of remorse over being white and evil everytime I read miss mitchells columns......she's light-skinned, but indeed black........or at least she says she is.....

Hey, Dear Abby and the comics never lied to me! Seriously most papers are okay and just present the facts. However when they become "international" such as the Washington Post or NYT I become a bit suspicious since they do have an agenda and promote certain political parties and ideas.

There is an old saying " believe half of what you see and none of what you hear". The way I try to separate truth from news filler is to read about the same event in the newspapers, news magazines, and hear it on the TV. When three or four reporters write about the same event, you can develop some sort of pattern.
As for reporting nothing but shootings and beheadings, that's done because it's what the public wants reported. Can you imagine reporting what the average guy does. NEWS REPORT Mr Gehubangehaben sat in his lazyboy and read magazines most of the day. He did get up to eat his lunch of liverwurst and sour kraut. After watching TV for the rest of the day, he finally went to bed. Wouldn't that make interesting reading ?

Nope. However your joke was rather amusing. If I did believe everything I read I'd be a nervous wreck. I don't read the Daily Mail for that reason alone, they're right scare mongers.

I read once in the Enquirer where a man ordered a fish sandwich and ended up taking a bite out of a mermaid. There were pictures, so it must have been true. Uhh huh huh huh.

I do not believe the paper all the times! Its like do you believe everything you hear on the tv or read on the internet. Some of it is spiced up to get more viewers!

While basically true we all know the writers allow themselves poetic license ..in other words pump up the story till its newsworthy and as far away from the truth as it can be without being downright lies...
