At my work, our parking lot is shared with a carpet company that always has big trucks coming in. Sometimes however, an oversized truck backs in and blocks all of our cars in the lot. Usually it is not a problem, and it never used to happen that much. Lately however they have blocked us in about 4 out of 5 days a week when it is time to leave work. I have gone over politely and asked if they can let us know when the trucks come in so we can move our cars, they say they won't. When I ask how long a truck is there for, they will not give me any kind of answer and are quite rude. Lately I have to run right after work to pick up my baby at daycare. I do not have the luxury of being able to wait for 30 minutes for the truck to move. They also will not pull out for 1 minute and let us pass like we've asked.
What are my options? Is there anything legally I can do? Are trucks allowed to just block off cars whenever they have to?
Keep in mind that the other company is uncooperative.

An unpleasant situation to be in!
Well, legally speaking, you can hold them for civil liability as they are causing you loss of personal property, i.e. your time. Before you can proceed further, I think you should put your foot down and set ground rules for the parking lot. Is there a landlord you can aproach about this problem??

Before filing a civil liability case againt them, you should as a rule give them give them warnings. Then legal notices.

But i suggest you do this is a step wise manner-
LANDLORD
WARNINGS
LEGAL NOTICE
CASE

Hope you get rid of your problem quickly! :)

CALL THE POLICE! Repeatedly and call a tow truck as well. The two truck will not be able to tow the vehicle until a police man writes a ticket.

But before all that leave a note for the trucker and explain your situation. This gives them a fair warning before you CALL THE POLICE!

Amazingly enough, contact the Better Business Bureau and lodge a formal complaint against the company.

They WILL co-operate then, I guarantee it.

No business wants a bad reputation. :-)

Talk to the landlord. He doesn't want your company to leave and he could do something. They are hampering your companies ability to do business, and that is a law suit waiting to happen.
