is it worth retiring to mactan,using philippines retirement scheme,or are their better places?

I think Cebu would be a nice choice however, I think you may want to live some distance from macatan seeing how it is right amidst all the pollution. I'm sure you can find something beautiful and inexpensive just mile outside of cebu city. Good Luck

No Mactan is very pleasant, and originally I planned to retire there or Talisay, however I now live North of Cebu City, near to my wife's relatives. Many foreigners choose Badian area, and the scenery certainly has a lot going for it, a lot of the big stores have branches there. Badian is in the South West, Bogo in the North has attracted many people too.
My take on the matter is to come here and to look around first, but I think you would be happy on Mactan Island with the fresh sea breezes. Many people retiring here make it their choice. I was there only yesterday the 29th September on one of the many new developments in that place. Many more are in the pipeline. You only have to go to SM shopping Mall or similar to have many leaflets thrust in your hand re houses.
In my opinion, you have made a good choice. I love Mactan island.

Go and have a look at Dumaguete, before you decide on Cebu. Up in the hills behind the town, around Valencia, is cool and beautiful and you're only a 15 minute drive to the sea. The beaches are not great on this side of Negros, but the markets are full of fresh fruit and vegetables from the hills and it's a very cheap place to live in terms of eating and drinking out. Many of my friends have found it to be perfect for them.

im from england,and been to manila,makati,cavite,cebu,and last in the phillipines was in dumaguete,and also went to bais city,and capinhan,and i will live there one day,so my vote would be for negros oriental anyday.
oh by the way my wife lives in bais city.
