I've heard conflicting theories of why morning is better and why later in the day (afternoon/evening) is better, just wanted to know if anyone knows when it is the optimal time to exercise... and NO "I think" or "maybe" answers.

When I was in the US Army we did it in the morning 99% of the time... sometimes on Thursdays ("family day") we did it in the afternoons, but I prefer morning just to get it out of the way... now that I'm out of the Army though and with 2 boys it's not the same at all. (Both me and my wife work... opposite shifts--I do days she does nights, so we're like that "Sam & Ralph" looney tunes cartoon... punching in and punching out only seeing each other when I go to work and when she goes to work and when she gets home from work when we sleep.)

If weight loss is your goal, then morning is ideal, especially if you perform the exercise before breakfast, as the body will have to use fat as the primary energy source sooner than if you have been eating all day, it will mean that the run will be harder, but you will gain more. You will also find that if you run in the evening before bed, you may struggle to sleep due to various hormones (eg endorphins) pumping through your body. I personally find the morning is the best time to train, as it tends to be quieter and wakes you up for the day ahead. Any more questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

It depends on whether you are a morning person or an evening person. If you are not a morning person then it can really take a lot out of you but on the other hand it may help you wake up. In the evening it may wake you up so much that you'll find it difficult to fall asleep. So don't listen to other people and what they say, it is your body and only you know yourself and what is best for your body.
