Australia! We're a melting pot of cultures and demographics!

Try Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United Kingdom, Japan, Sweden and the United States. All are strong democracies, so the question comes down to defining "unoppressive" and "safest."

If you live in the US, then you may think that you've been there and done that. After all, familiarity breeds contempt. However, the US has the lowest taxes of nearly any strong democracy, and high taxes are certainly a form of oppression. For the most part, products and food are cheaper in the US than they are in Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Canada, United Kingdom and Sweden. (Cars, appliances and TV sets, for example, are much more expensive in almost all those countries. Gasoline costs a lot more, too.)

You can live in democracy in many countries but it's up to you to define "unoppressive." I'll take low taxes and less intrusive government, which is generally true in the US. On the other hand, it's probably safer in a few other countries on the list, although to be REALLY safe, you'll have to speak and read the native language well. Overall, I'll take the US.

haha silly people, he wouldn't ask the question if he thought it was America..

To be completely honest, and you can do you're own research.. but from what I find, SPAIN. The spanish have the fewest connections with any of our politics but still provide a very pleasant lifestyle for its citizens. They are incredibly open minded and have a great cultural back round. You might want to learn spanish before you go tho..

Of course its the USA, I'd say we're a little better off than Great Britain only because we have a constitution.

Definitely the United States

Added Comment:

A lot of people are saying all these otehr countries, but what they don't realize is that most of these are socialist, or socialist leaning countries where you will be oppressed. Not the typical oppression you think of...but you will be subject to their universal healthcare, which is substandard, and much higher taxes.

The best of the best is right here in the USA
