There are several products that boast the idea that you can know practically days from inception though I would tend to be leery of such findings. But what does hold true for all "off the shelf tests" is the fact that you should see your doctor. As far as time, I sure that you could reasonably know within the first few weeks.
(Side note)
Please accept all that I've stated with "a grain of salt" I say this only because although I'm a father of 3, I may not have the body of knowledge that could be presented by more knowledgeable female posters who frequent these boards.

Most pregnancy tests say that they can detect the pregnancy hormone 5 days before your missed period. To be sure I would wait about 1-2 weeks after your missed period. By being nervous or convincing yourself that you are pregnant sometimes you can make yourself late. If you want you can always go to your local planned parenthood or to your doctor and get a blood test

There are tests out there that will tell you if you are preggers after 1 day of missing your period. You just have to read all the pregnancy test boxes.

They consider you to be 4 weeks along when you've missed your period and are pregnant.
If you are pregnant, unless you're like me who doesn't show positive on HPT tests...only on blood tests...it will show the day of your missed period.
If it says no, and you haven't had your period in a week..re-test. IF it's still no, and you have no period...call your doctor.
Best of luck!

home tests are not 100% accurate if you got a positive i would wait a few weeks then do it again to be sure. or got to a clinic and ask for a blood test.

It all depends on how long (if pregnant) you have been. You might want to go to the doctor to be sure. You will never know for sure unless you do. You can know, but I would take one each week. Just to be sure.
