Do you think the word...POM...is discrimation or racist towards the English??
I have a big issue with that question, I dont think it should even have been put to the people...my reasoning is that most English who have emigrated here or even tour here, refer to themselves as being a POM!!....Same with us, we Australians refer to ourselves as..Aussies !!...I am proud to be an Aussie...I dont see it as being offensive in anyway as every country has their pet name for their nationality...What do you think??..and what is your pet name for your countrymen??

Good for you, Ozzy Chick. I'm sick and tired of everybody being do hyper-sensitive nowadays. You'd think we were all made of antique porcelain that'll break if you look at it funny. C'mon people; grow up. You go girl!!!

The POM was first used on the convicts back in the 1800's when they were transfured from England to Australia. On the back of their uniform was the letters POM meaning prisoner of her majesty.Funny how it's been turned around after all these years.I personally don't have a problem with it and know many english people who do also class themselves as a POM.Me being an aussie I'm sure that this term is taken from the word Australia but shorten as we Australians have done so with many many words. Also personally you can call me anything you like!, but not late for dinner.

collectively because it rather is tempting to declare "decide for it" in a stiuation like this, vigilante justice in our society is by no potential good. the situation is, if it rather is okay this time, what's gonna end the subsequent mob from beating the crap out of somebody who's been falsely accused? What if that somebody became into you? Or a kin member? it is why we've rules, and courts, and jails. And regardless of its uncommon failings, the gadget oftentimes works for the earnings of all. Taking justice into your individual palms would not.

I usually ask someone whether a term is offensive to them or not. Ok, usually I end up unknowingly cheesing them off by using it, then I apologize and ask them what they'd like to be called.

I'm American, and my pet names for most of my countrymen are: idiot, inbreed, moron, ninny...etc.

Other nationalities call us such things as: gringo, yank, American pig bastard... etc.
