There are many crashes a year with taxi drivers being involved, they tend to have a agressive attitude on the road.

They are on the road much more than an average driver with passengers at their risk.

In many cities it is rare for a Taxi driver to keep to the speed limit and the police seem to be leaniant towards them.

Should they take an additional driving test to make sure they are suitable for their job?

This is in the UK I am on about

My friend got a Taxi to the an airport and the taxi driver kept drifting off at the wheel he had to hold it at certain times and turn on the fan to cold music up and open the windows as the Taxi driver didn't have a clue how to stay awake. He was tempted to get out it’s just that you get anywhere in the middle of nowhere at 4am that stopped him and still catch a plane.

There are a lot of foreign taxi drivers in some of the major cities however the general aptitude is the same

I have been cut up by so many Taxi drivers who haven’t concentration on the road. I've been in taxis where the driver only drives with one hand the other has his mobile to his ear.

There have been many crashes where they have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Yes, it would be nice. I have had to use a taxi once in my life and I walked to work after that. It was a scary experience.

Some States do require that a taxi drivers take another test. In some States they require what is called a Chauffer's Liscense. But, no matter how many tests you incorporate, taxi drivers will always be somewhat of a danger. There job gets very little pay and even less respect. They are very dependent on their tips and the volume of calls they get. Therefore, they will always rush around to get people where they want to go quicker, which usually means a bigger tip, and the faster they drop off one fare, the faster they can pick up the next.

i would imagine they do, the company that hires drivers pays a huge amount for insurance, im sure they and the insurance company require extra testing and aptitude. I think that the old stereotype of the arabs getting off the plane and becoming taxi drivers the same day are bogus.

No way. If you drive that much you just get better at driving. They can drive as fast as they want because they know the roads. I used to deliver pizza and I got to know the roads really well.

The reason they get in accidents is because they are driving for 10 hrs a day...It's bound to happen eventually.
