What kind of cell phone wouldn't work outside of your own state?
this "friend" of mine told me that she was out of state all last week and she that her cell didn't work.
i've taken mine out of state a few times and it works fine. so have other people i know.

It doesn't matter that it was out of state but if she was in a rural area that didn't have cell phone towers or clear access it won't work. I have a tracfone and I mine won't work a lot of places. It won't pick up signal. Even when I am home. I have to drive about 4 mi. to be able to get signal.

Maybe she is doing that thing some people do when they are quiet, unassuming sorts who don't like to fight with not quiet sorts.... She isn't telling the full truth because it's easier to say a quick sentence and hope you'll leave her alone. (Unfortunately, somehow this has been reinforced.)
It is quite possible she just couldn't afford to get on the cell phone as often as you would like, and it was somehow more expensive for her out of state, so she said, It doesn't work out of state, instead of getting into another long drawn out suggestion (you) and whining (her) session.
I don't do this anymore, but had a friend I started to at one point because she turned everything into a BIG drama if it wasn't going HER way....

Different cell phone companies have different policies about that kinda things. Some don't work out of state very well but still work. And some are roaming a lot when out of state.

SOme people providers suck and it is very possible that she is telling the truth. SHe could have been in an area that doesnt have a cell tower. My mother lives in rural PA and none of my phones ever work there, and it is the SAME state that I live in.
Why are you so suspicious?

It depends on what carrier that she has...sometimes you cannot get calls or able to call out because you cannot get a signal...this has happened to me before in West Texas for a couple of hundred miles...she could be telling you the truth...

Maybe it is the truth. Why would you think she would lie? Her phone might have not worked. Sometimes if you are in the mountains they don't work.
And it also depends on her cell phone provider.
You need to trust your friend.

The one I had in Los Angeles would work to the Mexican border, or to the Nevada border, but not more than a mile past that. Depends on the system you have, I guess.

Maybe what she ment is that she doesnt have a plan that allows her to make calls outside of her calling area. The charges are alot higher if your plan does not cover you outside of your area. Or maybe she just didnt want to talk to you.

Cricket/Revel do not work outside of your coverage area. Someone without roaming. Some plans do not include roaming and you have to add it when traveling.
