"Daddy don't beat me!" I have, and to this day I have a fear of leather belts, but at least I'm well adjusted...

I did. It might've been "daddy, don't spank me." But when he yanked by pants down to give me a whoopin', he saw bruises all over me bottom. He demanded to know where they came from. A day earlier one of my older brothers thought it was funny to pull me down our brick walkway by my ankles.

So instead of whoopin me, my dad gave my brother a long, belt lashing. That was the only time he tried to spank me -- I think after that he realized that my 3 brothers did enough damage to me to make up for anything bad I did.

I don't recall ever saying those words but I did cower in fear. I had a mean stepfather who beat me with a belt or would almost rip my head off with a slap across the face. Most of this occurred when I was between the ages of 5 to 10.
My mom divorced the dude and I caught up with him when I was 20. I was about 6 inches taller than him and he looked so small but when I was a kid he looked like a giant. Well, I told him he didn't look so tough now because I was ready to deck him and he knew it. He just gave me a look and walked off.
I have one child and I never have hit him with anything. I always felt you didn't need to in that all you have to do is keep a good line of communication open with your child.
He is 20 yrs old now and every time I see him I give him a hug and a kiss on the head. I'm the only one that he lets do that. It works for me. Too bad my stepfather was a complete a**hole.

No my Daddy never did but my Momma whipped a few times with a belt but mostly switchings with a bush limb. I'm sorry if you went through any abuse and glad you are well adjusted now.

not a belt, but a switch. ( a branch from a weeping willow tree)
I gotta admit though, I didn't get whooped for something trivial.
and I was so very hard headed and arrogent.

I am not apposed to corperal punshment, but I do beleive it should match the offense....
( if my child is hitting other children, she gets spanked,
if she accidently breaks something,
I try to explain what is wrong with ( horseplay, not being where your not alloud, whatever)
and, most importantly, if I am very upset and angry, I don't ever spank then. I want her to know that the spanking is for the offence, not cause daddy was upset.

Yeah, well adjusted comes at a price doesn't it? My Dad used to spank me until he got tired, or his watchband broke, sending his watch flying across the room. No leather belts, though. But my Grandma used a big metal spoon.

Well, the price for your adjustment was a fair one.....
I have never been beaten, I was the tactical child in the family....
I observed and learned without experiencing the negatives....

No, I feel bad for you though. My daughter spilled make up in our bathroom yesterday, and she just kept saying, "Mama, I sowwy, I be nice!" She was spanked when she did the same thing with face cream...I hope she's not scarred for life!
