The creditors will eventually take legal action.Since the defendant won't be able to appear in court, a judgement will be filed against him/her. This is a felony, and will haunt the person for a very long time.

They are not fond of taking a massive loss and will hunt for you. If its a small amount they will remember you when you come back. Don't plan on coming back any time soon. Ok don't plan on coming back in the next decade. With the state of affairs in the world, I don't think burning your bridges is a good idea. If you need to flee home to escape war, (you had better plan on that no matter where you live) it could get ugly if your not welcome home because you stole money from some one. Yes getting a loan and skipping the country, is just another form of thieft. Bank Robbers don't ride horses any more. You better rethink this long and hard. In the end you may find your going to pay one way or the other. I Beg you to reconsider.

Is does depend on the amount, but what can happen is that the debt can be sold on the debt agencies in your country and you will then be chased for it, with all the ramifications and, depending on where you are, significantly different enforcement tecnhiques.
It does depend too on whether they will track you down. Bear in mind that the creditors might harrass friends, family, neighbours and work colleagues to find information as to your whereabouts.
Whatever you decide I hope it works out for you. Good luck.
