It is because of the ignorance ( known as Maya) which envelopes the soul.It is the nature of human being to search for happiness. Each person has his own belief as to what will make him happy. Generally the majority believe that money and possessions can make people happy. so there is a mad rush for grabbing money and possessions. The method adopted are many. if you read Leo Tolstoy's short story"how much land does a man require?" it summarizes the greed of man and his ultimate end. Yet people keep on doing the same things. This is why the vedic scriptures say the "Maya " is most powerful and very few ever win over it.

This is true,we come to the world with nothing, yet as we grow society teaches us competition and desire for material things. For many people these bring a false sense of security. Some people have voids in there life, they are missing love, peace, self respect and self esteem so they try to buy love and happiness in their lives. This becomes an addiction. The why part is due only to the nature of human beings and the lustful desires of the flesh. The want for possessions, money and greed is so strong some people whom are not enlightend and do not have understanding of deeper truths get into all kinds of trouble due to this strong desire.Yet if most people would finnally understand God and Love are whats missing from their life and not things, this world would be a better place indeed. But it is no easy task as all of us have the desire. So the compromise is a balance,a balance between what we desire and finding peace and contentment with the blessings God showers on us if we believe.

What you have told is correct. It is exactly the same - the essence of Geeta, as told in Geethopadesam - The advice Lord Krishna gave to Arjun of Pandavas at the beginning of the Mahabaratha war.
So, whatever happened or happening or will happen is alright. There is nothing for you to feel you have lost something. Whatever you have is taken from here and you will leave them here only and you do not have anything to say as your own.
This is Geeta. There are many books on Geeta and you can get proper enlightenment by reading them. God bless you and all.

because not everyone understands what is important. many people think possessions define them, so they exploit to achieve a goal of possessions...
i think it is a Christ quote (paraphrased) that says 'what has a man gained if he gains the world but loses himself'
