I have tried 1001, washing up liquid, hot water, and scrubbed till i'm blue in the face but it's not coming off... have I ruined my carpet???

try white vinegar

Blue + yellow = green :-)
It is probably permanently stained, urine is just horrible to get out. Your best bet is to try a solution of vinegar and water, or something with ammonia. Otherwise you will have to try and dye it. There really isn't much you can do, other than that.

Got buy some RITZ dye and dye the green stain back to the original carpet color. Test in a non visable area first.

unfortunately urine bleaches things. The green may be one of the dyes in the carpet that has been exposed because of this...he may have bleached your carpet..time to get a small, decorative and pointless piece of furniture

Go buy some tuffstuff cleaner in the car care aisle, it gets out anything cheap too.
