The spirit board became popular in England when seances and other types of spiritism was practiced. It was normal for a group of adults to get together and summon spirits for entertainment. Allen Kardec is the author of many books on the subject. He was a Frenchman that held seances every week to get answers from the spirits on who they are, how to call them, and what is the otherside like. For those that practice a modern form of spiritism (espiritismo in Santeria) Kardec's books are used as a guideline on conducting seances (mesas). The ouija is a modern version of the spirit boards that were used.

It is not used in witchcraft at all. I personally don't use it and I don't know any witches that would claim to use it in their practices. I have used it once and although it moved the answers did not make sense. Would I use it again? Maybe if I am bored and have nothing else to do.

The ouija board is a form of divination, not witchcraft. However, many who practice witchcraft also perform divination. But performing divination does not mean one is practicing witchcraft.

Of course, this depends on your definition of "witchcraft." You need to be more specific if you want good sources. The biblical definition of witchcraft includes everything even remotely related to the occult, and that would include divination. Or do you mean historical witchcraft, such as during the Salem Witch Trial times? Or do you mean Wicca? Or are you confusing satanism with witchcraft?

No. Just as in all religious traditions, there are fringe elements. The Ouija board is only the most popular version of "spirit boards" that go back into the 18th century. They are games, and nothing more. True "witchcraft" is hard to find sometimes beneath layers of consumerism and silliness, but it is there if you are willing to intensify your search.

you could go to the library and get several books on witchcraft, but i'm pretty sure they don't use a ouija board. they use other things to make and do spells ... that sorta thing.

It is connected with the occult for sure. Ouija Boards are one thing to stay well away from. Very dangerous!

it is a form of divination. it is a devise designed to act as a conduit for spirits.

in my opinion it is dangerous because you are opening doors to things you don't know are there....

however, perhaps you should define your term 'witchcraft.'

do you mean the generic tv meaning dark magic or magick spells.... or do you mean wicca? Wicca is something completely different.

Lots of info on the web if you just google it.
