Very good question! I was not aware of Alabama Governor Bob Riley taking the position that he has but if what you say is true then he has taken a position of ignorance. I think that ALL politicians should be held to a higher standard. As the governor of Alabama and I am assuming that he considers himself a good and moral person, I think he needs to quit the Masons and denounce their practices or he needs to resign his position as governor.

First, I am a member of an esoteric (and by some accounts, irregular) Order of Freemasonry called American Order of Co-Masonry. We are often denied fellowship with so-called "regular": Freemasons because we admit women as well as men to all rights and privileges.
Co-masonry was founded in part because of gender and racial descrimination that existed in the world in the 1800s. It continues today because it offers a more esoteric understanding than just a fraternal organization bent upon fundraising for charitable works. There is nothing wrong with that kind of organization; we strive for more, however.
Inside the Lodge, we do not discuss religion or politics. So what I say here is my own viewpoint and not that of American Co-Masonry.
Personally, I would find it hard to vote for a person who belonged to such an organization no matter what it was called. I would also look, though, at other issues surrounding the man's character and how he comported himself. Merely belonging to that organization does not make him going out in a white sheet and burning crosses on lawns.
If he has been duly elected to office, belonging to the Freemasons should not be impeachable. I hope you are not implying that. Should you not vote for him again? That is up to you. I am a Progressive. I wouldn't.

First, I think we should insist that Pelosi accept people of color into her strictly all white country club that she owns. I believe there is a Mexican working there as a bus boy, though. She'd probably agree with you and then back pedal over her little club. Masons in and of themselves are not a bad group or a secret group like has been said. My grandfather was in the Masons and my grandmother was in the Order of the Blue Star (I think that's what they called the women's group.) Are you sure that people of color want to join? Sometimes I think people make too much out of that.

Would you have him quit his church, just because it has only white members?
Would you have him sell his home, if his neighborhood is not racially mixed?
Freemasons are a private organization, just like your church.
It is his private life.
Being a Freemason does not translate to being a racist. If he is a racist, being a Freemason would not be the only place in his life where those beliefs would appear. He should be judged on his public life by his public words & actions.
Your question doesn't sound all that "Liberal" to me.
