I have recently begun searching for a new job for personal reasons. I was given one job offer from a company that I would like to work for, but the problem is that they only offered me the amount that I am already making. While I might consider the change anyway because I want to leave where I am, and go to this place, the problem lies with the fact that the move would require me to pay for health insurance, pay for monthly parking in a garage, and forgo a raise that I will be receiving in December.

Hopefully some one can give me some ideas!

Negotiate....tell them you really want the job, but you will have additional expenses and really need another $5000 to make it work. They will most likely respond with "We can't do that". You respond with "What can you do?"

Since you asked for $5000 they may offer $2500 if they really want you. You can take it or say, "Could you do $3500?". Hopefully they'll say the most we can go is $3000. BINGO.

Can't guarantee it will work...but you never know.

You have to prove to them that you are worth the raise and justify to them why you need a higher salary than what you are getting now.
