Subsidies were given to MPs when they didn't receive a wage.
Wages were then given to allow unpropertied MPs to engage in politics and not be at a disadvantage.
Should London house subsidy be abolished, Should meal and drink subsidy be abolished. Should MPs live on their wage like every body else.

Politicians of all parties are guilty. They don't serve us, they serve themselves or should I say help themselves. Politicians are very well paid, they make sure of that annually when they vote on their salaries. While I accept they should be relatively well paid they should not be the ones that set the figure. I would also argue that the job should not be pensionable. They tell the working population that they should save, from their meagre earnings (in comparison to an MP) towards their pension while at the same time taking a percentage of our taxes to pay for their pension.

Yes, they deserve subsidies. MP's in the past were generally from well off families (it was more of an oligarchy than a democracy) and could afford the expenses of governing. Given inflation and that an MP must reside both in his/her constituency and in London to attend Parliament, I think that we must accept that they're going to cost the tax payer money. I just wish they'd actually do something constructive for the outlay :)

MPs should be made to live like student nurses. After all nurses are poorly paid because they do what they do for the love of their job. Why shouldn't PMs do the same?
But seriously, PMs do incur expenses over and above their everyday living expenses. And they do have to entertain visitors from other countries in a manor that befits the prestige of this country.
I think the real answer must be that subsididies and expenses should be scrutinised more closely.

particular, I agree that MPs would desire to be presented with low-priced lodging. it quite is an concept if Travelodge might conform to grant a development in Westminster purely for MPs. the cost might would desire to be envisioned against development a block of two/3 mattress room, supplied, self-catering residences, that would desire to be owned via Westminster Council. The residences might choose a carpark, protection guards and caretakers. Which ever of those innovations could be the main inexpensive! yet i think of that MPs expenses would desire to be shrink lots extra considerably. Why would desire to they declare for food? something human beings would desire to purchase our own! the only justified expenses that MPs would desire to be allowed to declare, are return and forth expenses, at 2d type, or economic gadget fares. And in London, employing tubes and buses in the process the day and early nighttime. No taxi fares till it quite is after 9 p.m.

Within reason, this subsidy is normal in most countries. London
rents are very high in comparison to other towns or cities, as are
restaurants and most facilities, so I think this is only fair to the
to have financial aid for MPs.

Absolutely, they get paid a good wage, much higher than the national average. I think it's disgusting, the lousy spongers.
