Which lord of the rings film does Gandolf get trapped at the top of the tower by Saruman? The bit where Gandolf jumps from the tower onto the eagle! Please help, serious bet going on!!

Fellowship. Remember, Frodo has just awakened in the house of Elrond and Gandalf is there. He asks Gandalf where he had been and Gandalf thinks back to being held captive by Saruman on the roof of Orthanc.

its the first film! gandolf goes to see saruman about the ring but saruman is evil and traps him at the top of the tower. this is where the eagle comes to save him and take him to the elvin city where frodo and his friends are waiting.

It was in the first one because gandolf just learns that the ring has re-appeared and goes to saruman to seek his guidance, trust me on this one

He was late arriving at Bree, and arrived Weathertop just before Frodo & Aragorn. That was due to being held captive.
This was before Rivendell.
ie. Fellowship of The Ring, the first film.
PS. only seen the film once, but read the book many times, so they may have changed it in the film.

It was Fellowship I promise you. I work internationally and those three directors cuts are some of the only DVD's I have to watch them now, and I watch them on a daily basis. Gandalf's being detained is why he didn't meet the hobbits at the Inn of the Prancing Pony when the hobbits first met Aragorn after leaving the Shire. When Frodo first sees Gandalf again at the House of Elrond he ask's him why he didn't meet them and Gandalf does a flashback. It's on the 1st DVD of the director's cut.

He gets trapped in the Fellowship of the Ring, and heads to Rivendell, on Gwahir the eagle king, for the Council of Elrond.
