society has unspoken rules about the interaction between men and women.. it's expected that men will be nice and helpful to women, but if men ask for help they're seen as weak and needy.. men have an instinctive desire to "protect" women and that's often played out through little things like holding a door open or helping her with her car or whatever..

Ah, but men are normally only helpful and generous to pretty women who they think they might have a chance with.
Fat middle aged women with hairy chins don't get that sort of prefferential treatment from young men.
Women give men wierd looks because, normally but not always, if a man is being overly helpfull or is asking for help it is because somewhere in his mind he thinks he has a chance to score.

I can only speak for myself when I say that being a women I feel more vulnerable in situations with "strange" (for lack of a better word) men. Add children to that equation and now we involve natures fierce instinct to protect our young. I don't think men have that same feeling of threat when approaching a woman. We (and men, too nowadays) must keep our guard up to protect against danger, but men being naturally stronger feel confident that they can defend themselves in confrontation. That's just my opinion.

If I try this- its in all likelihood because of the fact of a question I even have......why can the adult men your with by no potential get off the settee that could be useful you-yet whilst a neighbor or stranger needs some thing-its achieved nicely and that day without complaining. My mom and that i found out this in our adult men- so now she asks my guy for help and that i ask my dad. i'm continually leery of adult men asking straightforward issues-I stay in a crappy city and you by no potential understand who will club you on the top and attempt donning your epidermis.

Men shouldn't ask women for help. Plain and simple. I look at it as weakness. Either that or you're a pervert, rapist or serial killer.
Women have to be cautious. Men aren't usually attacked by women.

I think all the answers already given should be given "best answer" if that was possible. Good luck on picking just one answer! I've seen cars broken down on the side of the road and if there's a pretty female behind the wheel you can be sure there's a cop (or other "good" samaritan) eager to help out.

DUH: ever heard the word RAPE?
How many guys have lured women into a situation with the promise of help? Look at Ted Bundy. He was so sweet and innocent.
