GOLD. use since very very ancient times by man although they ( the cavemen) don't actually knew that gold was already unbreakble to further simpler compund or it was already an element. Gold was a stable element and found very often in nature unbonded with other element, that is why they can be found in nature as nuggets or almost purely as itself! Ancient men probably stumble upon Gold so many times in different era, and different areas of the world, by chance in nature, while grazing or hunting (seeing gold nuggets as intereting pieces of stone lying on the land), digging (food mostly the intention for digging), etc... and found out later that they can beat those gold nuggets to shapes they want. Jewerly is born.
have you ever wonder why gold was so much present in ancient civilizations in so many parts of the world and in so many different time-frame of history? well, this is the answer.
good day.
