Or are we punishing it's people? How would you, as an American, like to be treated because of something Bush said? Would it be fair for let's say another country refused to buy our exports because our President put his foot in his mouth? Where would that leave our workers?

7-11 has been working on purchasing it's own branded gas for about 2 years. This was not a rash, overnight decision. But the company did capitalize on the timing of Chavez' rant on the floor of the UN.

Oil is a commodity in great demand and just because people stop buying it at gas stations will not effect imports of it. Citgo will just sell its surplus production to any of the major gas dealers. All of the major refineries purchase Venezuelan crude and many of Citgo's refineries are joint ventures with national or regional gas dealers.

The funniest part about 7-11 dropping Citgo for an independent refinery's gasoline that can be sold under the 7-11 brand is that most independent refineries use Venezuelan crude because it is cheaper to import and provides a better profit margin for the indies. So even though 7-11 grandstanded about dropping Citgo, the chances are very high the gas will continue to come from Citgo (Venezuelan) crude, or even directly from their refinery.

And to answer the second question, people in many countries don't buy American products anymore. But that has been the case for decades. Our biggest and most secure export is food. The state of manufacturing today and the collapse of the stell and auto industries should answer your question about where the workers will be left; out of jobs and having to pick up new skills.

I'm sure that 7-11 boycotting Venezuelan oil will have little impact on the venezuelan economy. Demand for oil is world wide and there are many buyers.

7-11 is a corporation with the free will to submit to the political pressures of its government (sometimes disguised as incentives!) as well as to choose to buy its products from a variety of suppliers.

The answer to all of your questions is yes. Maybe if the people of Venezuela feel punished they should either get over it or replace their leader.

Hopefully it will punish their president because it will hurt their workers. It is a matter of trade here, and if their president does things that hurt their trade balance, then they start to have economic problems, and then their lifestyle suffers, and then the people get fed up with their president, and they vote him out of office.

It is the peoples responsibility to remove him.

I can't wait until we put an embargo on them. I don't care if an American bashes his / her people and it's President, but no foriegner will come to my country and bash it's people and it's president.

To hell with venezuela, let them take care of themselves.

Well I for one called 7-11 and asked them to do just that (pulling the citgo). I am glad they had the guts to do it.

Whoa!
The problem is the fact that the US is concerned about Venezuela's threat to cut off it's oil supply to us.
