How can I get my new website listed for search engines easily? I would like it to show up in the top somewhere. My website is www.giesinc.com and I designed it with my keywords as follows in an area where they told me to put them on using SiteBuilder: (rapid,prototype,fdm,prototyping,prototypes,mockup,mockups,3D, model, abs, dimension, sst, printer, metro, detroit, area, shipping, overnight,sameday,design,services,CAD,modeling,marketing,sample,samples). I offer nationwide delivery of solid model prototypes with same-day local service (Metropolitan Detroit Area), and overnight delivery nationwide. Prototypes are made from 3D CAD models and printed on a special printer that prints the model in 3D using ABS plastic.
Does it cost me anything to have the site listed and to keep it higher in rankings? Tx so much for your help!

First, make sure that you submit your website to the search engines. It takes anywhere from 2 weeks to even 6 months for websites to show up in the search engines. In some cases, a website will show up after 2 weeks of being online, only to disappear for maybe 3-6 months (which is called Google sandbox, though Yahoo to a certain extent also does)
With Yahoo, you can go to https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit to submit your site for free. For guaranteed inclusion in their search engine, you have to pay and use their paid services http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html
Ranking high in the search engines, however, is a tougher ballgame. Search engines look at the following factors in ranking websites, though in varying degrees of importance:
- Age = an older site stand a higher chance of getting better rankings than newer sites because they are more established (especially if considered an authority in the field) and a lot more incoming links
- Quality and Uniqueness of the Content = sites rank well if they have content that users consider relevant and original, not rehashed or using content used by hundred other websites (e.g. articles in article submission directories)
- Keyword density = number of times the keyword appears on the site. This also includes having the keywords in important places such as the title, metatags, even H1s and H2s
- How it fares in the results = when it comes up in the search engines, are people clicking on it or not. If not, search engines consider the site to be not relevant to the keyword. Also, how long does the user stay on the site; if they hit the back button immediately, then the site may not be relevant to the search term
- Site structure = on-page factors to sitemaps
- Backlinks = who are linking to the site and what are their quality (the more authoritative the site linking to your site, the better).

SEO (search engine optimization) takes a lot of work! There are people/companies that do SEO for a living. There is no trick or quick fix to getting your site to the top of a search engine. EVERYONE wants their site to be #1 (or at least on the first page). Either take an SEO class, or hire someone to do SEO for you.
Also, you can advertise (pay per click) to get on yahoo and google. Go to overture.com to advertise on yahoo.

The best way to get your site listed is to have the appropriate meta-tags and content. The site crawlers check for meta-tags, and then they search your actual text for repeats of the tags with in the site. A lot of sites used to use misspelled words to get hits, but if they are not misspelled within the site, the crawler will ignore them in your tags. The more relevency the crawler finds, the higher your rating. Use a good submission site as well as link backs from other sites, these help get you nearer the top.

Both tools are free and give you information about how these search engines are seeing your site.
Keep in mind that live.com (msn, microsoft) and ask.com have no submiting tools available.

Submitting it by google is a good idea, not a bad idea. Make sure you use your meta tags to insert keywords into your source code.

To get your site included in the google search you can add your url to google by going to this page
http://www.google.com/addurl
To get your site to the top you might add your site to the sponsered search otherwise google will put your site according to the page rank given to it.
