Go to www.download.com. You can do a search for antivirus software. It will give you a list of all the different antivirus software with a description of each. Most are rated and you can also read readers comments to see how they fare in real life situations, to help you to better decide what software is best for you. Some are not free, some are. That's all in the decriptions part. That's where I got my anti virus, anti spy ware, and adaware remover. All of them free and so far (knock on wood) they seem to be doing their job.

You can get a free scan of your computer for viruses, spyware, etc. at housecall.trendmicro.com and www.pandasoftware.com/activescan. As far as free, software to load, I know that AVG offers a free software for Anti-Virus. You might also check with your internet service provider, I know road runner offers free anti-virus, firewall and e-mail spam filters.

I agree that AVG from Grisoft is the best. Just go here http://free.grisoft.com and get your copy. It will automatically update itself and does not require system restarts for the updates to take affect. I recommend it to all of my clients. To remove spyware go to Microsoft's site and download their free Windows Defender and be sure to have the anti-spyware from yahoo http://companion.yahoo.com Hope this helps.

The two virus programs suggested (Avast or AVG) are excellent free progs...would recommend using the site at www.zdnet.com to download either, and any other free programs that you require for your computer.
You have to register there when you wish to download progs, but as it is a free site then there is no cost to yourself.

i recommend www.lavasoftusa.com ad-aware personal and
www.grisoft.com for avg anti-virus.
that will remove spyware and viruses
