In a nutshell, Strood is a horrible little place that even people from Chatham avoid (and that's saying something!).

Is there much crime? There is nothing but crime
Is there a good shopping centre? No
Are there good schools? You've got to be kidding. Not unless you include Borstal anyway.
Good public transport? Not sure about this, but I'd imagine so as hookers and drug dealers don't appear to know how to drive in that area.

Seriously - avoid Medway like the plague. If you want to live in Kent head further afield...Sevenoaks, Tonbridge Wells if you can afford it or Canterbury if you want something nice but a bit cheaper. Even Maidstone and Ashford look better options than Strood, Chatham, Rochester, Gillingham and the rest of Medway - and they're not exactly that great either (although both are getting better)

My opinion of Strood is that it's one big roundabout. I can't think of anything good to say about it. Can't help on the schools aspect except I know that the primary school in nearby Chattenden is pretty good. There is good public transport, buses and trains. There's a market every Tuesday and Saturday. Supermarkets are Morrisons and Tescos. For shopping you have the Dockside Outlet, easy to get to by bus. Also Chatham if you're into totally chav. Or there's Bluewater about 10 miles away which is the largest shopping centre in Europe. Yes, there is quite a lot of petty crime, you'd have to watch your handbag or wallet, especially on Chatham high street. Sorry I'm not painting a pretty picture of the place but those are the facts in my view. I'm sure another answerer will paint a better picture of the place

Sadly Frindsbury nr strood is a bit on the remote for myself as its in the middle of no-where,I used to live in Strood myself and Frindsbury was not a place you would make a point of going to unless you had to.Same drug problems, car thefts and burglarys as with anywhere else, Frindsbury has a small local police station nothing fancy and it closes at about 7pm,after that everything has to go through Strood station meaning theres no real police presence after night fall.Frindsbury does have a few schools, but what they are like i cant say.It has the basics of shops to support a small place with larger shops and supermarkets etc about 5 to 7 miles away.Public transport is a regular twice hourly sevice to Strood during the day and hourly of an evening till about 10pm,and thats your lot theres no train station and cabs are quite dear..Hope this is of help to you..

Strood is not rough, I grew up there, and yes its a bit run down and its not exactly Kensigton, but its not a bad area. Has really god transport links to Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham, Dartford, London, Margate, Herne bay, Maidstone and Tonbridge
