A choice, do you choose to hand in a wallett you've found, no one knows about and can't be traced, do you tell the shop teller she's given you too much change.

It is neither a choice nor an obligation.
What we try to term as good, is in fact , just what we feel to be appropriate in the situation. To be able to do such a thing is the ability to respond to the situation. This ability is a consequence of right perception of our role as a human being.
If this attitude is understood and experienced, even the residual ego of having done something good does not create the unwanted expectation of appreciation, or the burdensome sense of obligation also does not pull down our rightful joyousness of doing something very right in the situation !
This view helps a person to keep going at full capability, and gives extreme satisfaction of having lived purposefully !

I think it is a choice for most people. Its normal human nature to empathize with each other so people choose to do good. For some people such as politicians maybe its is an obligation, it is somtehing that comes with the territory and is more often than not a means to an end.

It's a choice. Say you see a homeless person in the street and you feel the urge to hand him some money. Is it an obligation? No. You would CHOOSE to give him the money or not. You don't have to.

It is neither a choice not an obligation. It is our duty as human beings to do good. Man is the only species on this earth with the power of discrimination. He is vested with this power to think and do such things which would be good to all other living beings and to the planet earth as a whole. When you become selfish and forget this duty trouble arises. All the problems which you see in this world today is on account of some one or more than some one having failed in his duty

Doing good is a choice, everything is a choice. You either do it or you don't do it. Even if you are obligated to do it you still have the choice to do it or not.

Being righteous is a moral obligation! But still we are all given the free will to choose what actions we undertake. The thing is, there is a price for everything. We do good - we feel good! We do bad - we have our conscience to haunt us for the rest of our life. (i.e. If we do have a conscience!)

Here is a revelation:

A choice of 1 is still a choice -- one is not forced into doing nothing.

A choice of 2 is a choice of 1 -- one could not have the cake and eat it.

CHOICE! When presented with a situation, you choose to do good or not. It is your choice.
