I am a combat veteran, The most enjoyable things loved ones can send is pictures and letters. Also if he has a favorite author or two send some paperback books (2-3) he will enjoy and put a small note in each cover, (be careful what you write though, the books will be shared with his buddies). Make sure anything edible is completely closed double bagging is recommended because sometimes package sit for a time and getting ants in your fudge sucks. In your letters do not always be distraught over missing him, he has enough to think about where he is. Miss him yes but be encouraging and let him know how much you love him and how great it will be upon his return.

Recap; letters, pictures, books(2-3), sealed sweets, and love.

Let me start by saying how sorry I am that he got sent their. I'll pray to my mother that he returns safely.

Believe or not comic books. Having battled anxiety and depression I can tell you that if he's in a place where he's going to see action he'll probably be s-h-i-t-t-i-n-g bricks so days and when your in that state of mind you just can't concentrate on much. Comic books are short stories with cool pictures.

I was never into comic book, even as a kid, but in the darkest days of my depression I flipped through a Star Wars comic book and for 30 min I forgot my anxieties and depression.

I know it sounds silly but I'm sure he'll appreciate it. The hard part is find out which superhero he finds coolest.

Courage and my mom will be watching over him.

Just write good letters about how much you miss him and the fun things that you will do together when he comes back. The most important thing is that you and your family support him thru this time.

Gameboy - lots of batteries, mind puzzles - you know the ones made out of wood where you have to take them apart and put them back together. CD's and DVD's.
