Inspite of what others have posted there are several very good freeware antivirus and and spyware program. All of the freeware programs have paid versions that just have more bells and whistles.
I run the following Freeware programs on my 13 computers.
AVG Free Edition
Spybot S&D
AdAware SE
MS Befender
Ewido

Spyware Guard
Spyware Blaster
cCleaner

Here is a link to those and many more. Remember you can run only one Antivirus at a time.

Lavasoft Ad-Aware
http://www.lavasoft.com
Free download from download.com - this should take away your malware problem. However, it could be something new that they haven't added to the database yet. Recommend adding this to your computer regardless. Scan now, daily, and often after visiting questionable sites.

Grisoft AVG
http://free.grisoft.com
This anti-virus is great. Doesn't act up in the presence of other AV software (that I've witnessed) like Norton and McAfee.

Recommend after visiting questionable sites - In your browser, on the menu bar select TOOLS, INTERNET OPTIONS, and clear your history, delete cookies, and delete your files.

Recommend also setting your browsers storage of temporary internet files to the lowest setting (TOOLS:INTERNET OPTIONS:GENERAL tab:SETTINGS), 1 MB in Internet Explorer - especially if you have high speed internet - there is no reason to cache files with the download speeds today.

There are also some other options - Yahoo! Toolbar comes with anti-spyware that works well to detect items. Keep your pop-up blocker on at all times - if you have a link that is not questionable and causes a pop-up window to appear, use CTRL and click the link to bypass the pop-up blocker.

This software also comes recommended:
Spybot-Search and Destroy

If you'r running windows - right click on the start menu and click on explore. A window should open with a list of folders. Click on cookies. A folder with all the cookies stored on your computer will open. Select all and delete them. Then go to your recycle bin and empty them. Hope this helps.

anyway they give you a FULL suite for 15 days trial and then you can use for free just the firewall; but in the meanwhile you may clean your pc and then take more care through a firewall;

friends already told you there are plenty of download pages: tucows, cd net, geek, etc take some time to find out;
ciao

You can download the yahoo toolbar at http://companion.yahoo.com or you can go to Microsoft's site and download windows defender. I use them both so I get them all and miss nothing. FOr a free anti-virus, go to http://free.grisoft.com and get a copy of AVG

get one of the free ones that work pretty good.

www.ewido.net is probably the best and you can do an online scan without downloading and installing programs
adaware and spybot are the other good ones that are free. you can get both at www.download.com

nothing is free, if you download something that claims to be free you will get adware on your pc making your pc more vulnerable to a virus, when you get a pop up that wont stop just right click on it and click properties to find the name of it, then run search and delete it, if that doesnt work then boot up in safe mode and run search, alot of people dont know this but adding toolbars to your pc makes it more vulnerable to adware and viruses
