To paraphrase "A Pirate Looks at Forty," I dedicate this one to the St. Louis Cardinals:
Mother, Mother Baseball, we have let you down,
Led the division by a dozen or more, now
We've let Cardinal Nation down, we've let them down.

Watched as our rotation
Slipped from Cy to suck
No idea just how we did it -
All we can say? "What the f---?!" ... say "What the f---?!"

We've had our share of winning,
We used to have "the gas,"
We had enough winners to take the pennant
But we've pissed it away so fast ... never meant to last ... never meant to last.

What has happened to the Cardinals (one of my favorite teams in the National League of MLB) is something that will continue happening for a few more days, until the Houston Astros will take their spot (because they just don't want to play anymore, and it really shows). It will be the TEAM THAT REALLY WANTS TO GO TO THE PLAYOFFS THAT GETS THERE. Then, EVEN IF, the Cardinals happened to make it to the playoffs (on the off-chance) they would be finished after that first round.

I think it has something to do with a new stadium and breaking it in properly (much like breaking in your ball glove). Also, a stadium needs TIME TO BUILD tradition (which the Cardinal's Completely tore down last year). So, they are going to have to wait about 20 years before building up MEMORIES like the ones that they produced in the first BUSCH Stadium. You DON'T JUST TEAR DOWN MEMORY LANE AND EXPECT TO WIN IN THE VERY NEXT YEAR. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN...

"Cole Hamels kinda sucks". Check his stats and resume', please. No uneducated guesses based on an off year in 2009.. I'm a Phillies fan, and I'll be the first to tell you that right now the Cardinals have the better three, Wainwright and Garcia are having really solid years. Garcia is unproven, but he's still having a career year. Wainwright is just Wainwright, nothing more can be said about him. Chris Carpenter isn't too shabby either. Right now, the Cardinals have the better three. If Lincecum was having a Lincecum year, I think they would have the best three.

The Cardinals aren't the only team with injuries. Every starting pitcher for the Astros had some sort of injury this year. Every one of their position players has gone through some kind slump. The thing is, the Astros never give up.

It's simple. Poor pitching. I would be shocked if the Cardinals continued to fall. Just shocked. As much as I love the Astros and hate the Cards, I still think the Cards are going to hang on.

We haven't been that great all year but have been in a weak division. Now that someone in the division (Astros) have gotten hot, we've been exposed for the weaknesses we have. Mainly pitching, defense has been bad in big situations, and the only one you can count on for the big hit is Pujols and occasionally Rolen.

They are just in one of those funks, again. Bad timing. Even if they get into the playoffs they are not going to get far.

There is no consistency in pitching and batting.

There is always next year.

They've been hurt by injuries and a questionable bully.
