I wouldn't recommend it- it wouldn't be comfortable, and would probably inhibit your movement. Most male dancers wear leggings or mens tights (In this case, for the leggings, a womens pair would probably work) on the bottom, and a tank top on the top.
Hypothetically, you probably could cut the bottoms off a womens leotard, if it's cut in tanktop style, and wear it as a top, but it would probably be easier to buy a tanktop or undershirt.
Make sure to get a dance belt (aka, jock strap) if you're going to do any partner work, and for basic comfort. You can buy them at any sporting goods store.

If you are wearing it in front of other dancers there is no hiding that it is a girls leotard. Men's and women's dance clothes are very different in style and fit especially leotards. Besides the fact that the styles are made to accentuate the differences in a male and female body, there are differences in the actual fit for certain reasons. Men's leotards are made to fit your extra stuff so a woman's leotard would not be very comfortable in this area.

Why bother being discrete you'll still look a prat whether it's male or female leotard, maybe a tutu too

depends where you bulge - its not about style more about size - a womans will obviously be smaller! plus can anyone really 'get away' with wearing a leotard?!
