I think what is important here is preservation. Treasures should be at places where they could be preserved.

Yes but Im afraid the people of egypt would not be able 2 store it was there earlier this year great place for a visit (very cheap at the moment) but on every corner someone was trying 2 sell you a treasure they had found.
There are some that should be sent back if they can find them seen a programme on tv years ago there was this huge rock keeping open one of the lower vault doors in the british museum it turned out to be the beard from the Great Sphinx of Giza sad when yousee things like this DO WE REALY NEED IT ?
I would say ask the people what they want back as they might not want every thing
who pays for it them or us ?

I think with any question such as this, you have to rise above the emotion of the question. The real question is whether all looted goods during the conquer or sacking of a nation or state be returned? Or maybe the question is "should there be an international law that tries and judges nations on how they obtained ancient antiquities? As you can see it is, unfortunately, not as easy as it may appear.
Your question though is whether "I" think (...do YOU think...) the west should return all treasures to Egypt? My answer would be "yes" I think they should - but not because they have to. And England should give the marble back to Greece, and all the underground traders of ancient antiquity should give all their stuff back to the respected countries including Africa....etc. etc. Is it realistic? NO.

If Egypt didn't want their treasures taken out of the country, they should not have allowed the West to come over and dig them up. So, I think the West should keep the treasures since they spent their money to find the treasures and Egypt let them come into their country to get them.

YES, as long as the Egypt government wants to and has the ability to maintain all the treasures.
Chinese government and Chinese people want the treasures back from the Great British Museum as well. And we should have them back since those precious treasures ain't under good protection in Britain!!!

Yeah. I think that's a great idea. And then all the museums and galleries in France could show only French art and those in germany only German art and those in Spain only Spanish art. In fact I think it's outrageous that art from Glasgow should be on show in Birmingham. And what about the looted treasures of Hemel Hempstead? All art treasures must be returned immediately to the very building in which they were created!

No, I don't agree. Egypt is a Muslim country these days and most of the population don't give a toss about ancient Egypt. If it hadn't been for westerners, all that stuff would still be buried in the sand.

My problem with the 'looted treasures' is not that they are no longer in their country of origin, but that you don't really see them in their context at all.
Taking Egypt as the example, many of these objects come from silent, desert tombs, they are shrines to the dead. But we see them surrounded by shrilling schoolchidren, in a plain glass case. More effort needs to be made re-create the original conditions/settings of these objects.
basically, we need to bury more schoolchildren alive.

I should agree with you, but there is only one question.
"Where are you gonna put them?"......your museums are full. Your storages are full. Many artifacts are destroying in the storages because of poor storage and inadequate maintenance.
On the other hand, whatever there is out of Egypt in other museums, I think is a cultural ambassador at these countries and I think that they are handled with very high respect. What's wrong with that?
Don't you agree??
