As somebody mentioned before- it is subjective. Of course, Oxford is well known, and so people consider it to be 'the best' University. I attend King's College University, in London- and I think its great. Yeah the people there are a tad stuffy- but for me its a great place to study and people seem equally as impressed when i tell them where i study.
Anyway, choose an institution that has a good reputation for the subtect you wish to study. goodluck.

That's a very subjective question that no one quite agrees on. Best for what?

These both rate Oxford and Cambridge very highly

What the best university is very much depends on what you want to study and how you want to study it, but if you're looking for a snappy answer, and one that corresponds well to public perceptions, it's going to be Oxford or Cambridge.

For what it's worth, Oxford is generally considered to be stronger in Arts and Humanities, Cambridge in Sciences.
