Get her a gift certificate to her favorite store, or some nice jewelery, or maybe even find an old picture of her from like 30 years ago and put it in a nice frame for her. My mom is in her 50s and is getting a kick out looking at pictures of herself from back when she was a teen and in her 20s.

But also, if she's really into something, like if she's a collector of somesort, or has a big interest in something, then you can get her something that relates to that. Like if she collects model cars or dolls, then get her something that she doesn't have yet. I hope that this helps in your choosing the best gift for her.

Hi. Hope I can help. Most of us women do not like being reminded that we are getting older (duh) so I would not go for the sentimental. Instead, give her something techno to shake up her world and put a little spice in her life. I-pod, blackberry, any gizmo that is sort of fun and not overly complex. She will have a good time with it and always think of you when she does. :)

If she does not already have one I suggest getting her a mother's ring that has the birthstones for you and any other siblings that you may have. It was one of my mother's favorite gifts that we gave her.

A pampering day at a spa.

NO birthday cards about being "over the hill!"

Listen carefully for hints or look for magazines open to particular ads. Or just ask her!

Something she would not normally get or do for herself. A spa day would be real nice.
