Herbert Hoover. He was this great statesman and humanitarian who was president from 1929-1933. The Wall Street Crash happened right after he got elected and he got blamed for the Great Depression that followed. He's generally thought to be one of the worst presidents ever but this is very unfair considering all the other things he achieved.

In particular, he passed various laws and such to help Native Americans, campaigned for peace in Latin America as well as worldwide arms reduction, reformed the USA's social services...

Anyway- look into it (there's a bunch of stuff on wikipedia for starters).

President Ford.
Most people would disagree with this, but think about the world situation at the time. Vietnam was raging. The President just resigned. The country was in turmoil. The 60's and the Civil Rights Movement were affecting the population in ways that most people didn't even recognize. In order to move the country on, deal with and set up getting out of Vietnam, continue the positive changes made in the Civil Rights Movement, and address the 'free love and drug culture' of the 60s, Ford did the right thing by giving Nixon a pardon.

Jimmy Carter. President Carter's top two challenges were to combat rising inflation, and to institute an energy program to decrease U.S. dependence on foreign oil. (Sound familar? We're still trying to accomplish this to no avail!)
Inflation reached a high of 20 percent a year in 1980, but when the government raised interest rates in an attempt to bring it down, unemployment became a serious problem. The economy eventually became the thorniest issue of his reelection campaign. He did, however, secure passage of a comprehensive energy program that was supportive of private energy development.

In matters of defense, Carter advocated increased spending, favoring a cruise missile system. He endorsed a strong North Atlantic Treaty Organization but opposed its use of neutron bombs. He secured passage of a new Panama Canal Treaty (signed in 1977) and concluded a Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty.

Other notable, but rarely positive accomplishments include he initiated a foreign policy based on respect for human rights. Critics charged that he applied the policy unevenly, leading to a deterioration in relations with the Soviet Union. He retaliated for Soviet intervention in Afghanistan by instigating an international boycott of the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. His greatest triumph in this area came in 1978, when he provided the framework for the historic Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty that was signed in 1979. (Both nations who now remain allies to the United States, for the most part).
