A Core 2 Duo processor has two cores and therefore will work faster than a Pentium 4 3.2 HT.

There will be performance. Now here is the thing...

You do have to take buss speed into account. You do have to take motherboard into account. You do have to take operating system into account. You have to take your application into account. If you want just AWESOME SPEED to play a game, EVERYTHING should come into play.

Dual processor motherboards have been around since the late 90s. They have only been useful in Server applications, where the processing can be tweeked and balanced. If you are just using a word processor, surfing the internet and other mundane things, you don't really have to have Core 2 Duo unless you simply like the NAME.

But I'd love to see some of your benchmarks at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/

Don't have the benchmarks handy, but the performance is definitely there for Core 2 Duo. It beats AMD X2, which handily smoked Pentium 4 HT.

Here are a couple of good hardware review sites, don't know if you'll find the direct comparison you're looking for, though.
