My friend says I should only talk to people who can do something for me, and not take all my time and energy. I just figure a friend is a friend and how they are, is just how they are. To me, a friend is somebody you just accept as they are. The friend gets livid when I mention I talk to anyone else. I hope it is not what I think it is. oh no.

There is a bit of truth to what your friend is saying.

If you have a friendship with someone who zaps all your energy and makes you feel drained when you are in his/her company, that has a negative impact on your psyche.

I would not want to be with people who constsntly bring me down when I am with them.

I had a friend like that too. She'd get REALLY upset whenever I'd talk to anyone else, and she'd tell me I ONLY call her when I need something. In her case, I think it was just that she didn't have ANYTHING else to do but sit there and call people and talk on the phone. It was as if she were too involved with what everyone ELSE was doing, than try to do anything for herself. It was really quite sad. I still talk to her, but I eventually had to let her know that she was trying to be TOO involved with what I was doing everyday.

LOL. It probley is what you think it is so be careful what you actually do about it. I say that you should keep talking to your other friends because whether they can do something for you now or not doesn't meen they cant do something for you later. It is always good to have friends around. You never know when you'll need them.

It seems like your friend is an empty and shallow person. That should be the friend you should not talk to. Friends are there for support, not for them to "do something for you." Someone who expects that is a user and needs to be removed from your life.

Your friend is a controlling and jealous individual. This is not a good friend to have as he/she will isolate you until you haven't anyone to talk to besides him/her. Ask yourself a question using his/her criterion. "What is he/she doing for you?"
From what I can see it is all negative and nothing upbuilding.
