...to get hold of cars costing £0-£50, real bangers that need TLC but still run? I'm in need of a project car for our house of 5 to learn the basics of mechanics (all students) and, as long as the thing runs, condition isn't important. I'm aware of asking about in scrap yards etc etc, but wondered if there was a singular resource that deals with these sort of cars in the UK?

Cheers

You could try your local recovery firms as they sometimes have the car surrended to them if the costs are too high. Worth a try?
Try the big car dealerships. Jeremy Clarkson on top gear on a recent report managed to get a volvo for a quid worth a try?

car auctions are always good places, you could also try a (banger) dealer for a car they've taken as px as it may cost them less to sell it than scrap it

good luck
