Please I have no idea how to do this. I don't have the ans and need is for a test comming up. Cn u pls help me wid 1?

If p= 2.4 x 10 (raise to the power of -4) and q= 1.2x10 (raise to the power of -3) Find
i. pq
ii. p/q
iii. p+q

Give your answers in standard form.

Since I can't type that small number on top of the 10. I wrote it in the brackets.

pq= 2.4 x10^(-4) X 1.2x10^(-3)
= 10^(-4)[2.4 x 12]
=10^(-4)[28.8]
=2.88 x 10^(-3)
10^(-4) is smaller and you factorise the smaller number out

p/q=2.4 x10^(-4) / 1.2x10^(-3)
= [2.4/1.2] x [10^(-4)/10^(-3)]
= 2 x 10^(-1)
as 10^(-4)/10^(-3)=10^(-4-(-3))

p+q= 2.4 x10^(-4)+ 1.2x10^(-3)
= [1.2x10^(-4)][2+10]
= [1.2x12] x 10^(-4)
=14.4x10^(-4)
=1.44 x 10^(-3)

for such questions,you can use calculators to check the answers so it is not necessary to get answers for these questions but you need to nkow how to convert the standard forms from the calculator figures.

here
p = 2.4 x10^(-4) ; q = 1.2 x 10^(-3)

for product add the power:
(2.4 x 1.2)(10^(- 4 - 3)) = 2.88 x 10^(-7)
for division subtract the powers:
(2.4 / 1.2)(10^( - 4 + 3 )) = 2 x 10^(-1)
for addition use the usual method

p=2.4 x 10^(-4)
q=1.2 x 10^(-3)
p=2.4 x 0.0001
q=1.2 x 0.001
p=0.00024
q=0.0012
pq=0.00024 x 0.0012
pq=0.000000288
p/q=0.2
p + q = 0.00144

pq=2,4*1.2*10(-3+(-4))=
2.88*10(-7)
p/q=2,4/1.2*10(-3-(-4))
=2*10(1)=20

p+q=
2,4*10(-3)*10(-1)+1,2*10(-3)=
10(-3)[2,4*10(-1)+1,2]=
10(-3)*1,44

the numbers in brackets means they are powers(on top)
