A local garage diagnosed that our 2001 Mazda MPV's transmission needs major repair. Planetary gears, and the main drive. We have an exteneded warranty that covers this, depending on the cause. Do I let the dealer know that we have the warrenty beofre they work on it? This Mazda dealer has been pretty sleazy with past warranty work. Denying it, saying that it isn't covered with out even speaking to the extended warranty co.

YES!!! You should ALWAYS tell a dealer that a vehicle is under an extended warranty before they start working on it. You should also make it very clear that you EXPECT that the warranty will cover the repairs and that you will pay nothing except a deductible (if your warranty requires it). Don't get in the middle of that pissing contest. If there's a disagreement about the warranty and what it covers, tell the dealer to contact the warranty company directly.

Your extended warranty will provide you something to drive. Call the warranty people first and ask them who to take the car to? Find people in your area who use other dealerships and ask them what kind of service they have done and results. That 4.0 liter front drive mazda MPV transmission is esentially ford taurus.

yes it would be a good idea unless you want to pay the parts and labor charges.i have a 03 suburban and had a few things that went bad and i always told the dealer i had extended warranty.ive never had any major troubles like you have. maybe its time to trade? vehicles dont usually break down like your have.i had a 1990 silverado with over 100k miles that never needed any major work. why not try an american car or a toyota?

I would let them know and if they give you the run around get a hold of the Mazda national headquarters and let them know. They do not want to lose you for a customer
