I am about to start a degree in advertising and marketing so If you are studyin or have studied a degree in advertising or marketing please answer. Just need some ideas on which career path i would like to take.

i think it will be good for you to look for a local advertising company and ask them a lot of Questions, But this is my take on it....
It is a very fast pace profession, you need to be very creative both in keeping and getting new ideas and clients. aside that it is also fast changing profession as technology changes everyday.

You meet creative people and could learn the professional way to produce Artworks.
